Art for Sight - Ski for Light Monument - Frisco, Colorado

 

 

 "Ski for Light - Art for Sight", Sculpture  (c) William Barth Osmundsen 

Placed in honor of the 80th Birthday of SFL founder, in the US, Olav Pedresen

Commissioned by the Frisco Art Council. 

Cast by Studio On-the-Ridge, NH and installed by the Artist for the

September 1997 commemoration.

 
Sculptor Bill Osmundsen finishes Bronze Skier
at his Studio On-the-Ridge, New Durham, NH
 
"Every bronze piece begins as a clay model. From there a mold is taken and a lengthy process begun that involves firing the piece in a kiln for more than six hours, melting bronze at more than 2,000 degrees, welding together and then sandblasting the piece, and using different chemical compositions to give it color."

He is designing them for those who cannot see; to be touched and felt by people who are visually impared .  Osmundsen thinks his concept is a first step in overcoming problems connected to communication between people with differing perceptual abilities..."
