I first became involved with my own metal casting while filling an order for a collection of my Bronzes from the Sea, in Sterling Silver, for Cartier Inc., in Manhattan, in 1981. ‘Previously, as a Sculptor, I had cast my artworks in bronze and sterling with Tallix, now a world recognized art foundry. In 1990 I expanded my studio to include larger bronze sculptures and cast my own ‘Art for Sight’ monument for placement in Frisco, Colorado as well as the works of 6-8 other artists including work for Felix de Weldon.’ William Barth Osmundsen has been the recipient of two New Hampshire % Percent for Art Awards placing four 6-10 foot Copper Repousse Weathervanes on NH State Buildings. In 1976 Osmundsen sailed onboard Norway’s Christian Radich from that inspiration he created his ongoing series Bronzes from the Sea which has been exhibited in New York, Oslo, Houston, Baltimore and Newport RI when his collection was expanded by a commission from the America’s Cup Committee. At the Helm was presented by Norway’s HM King Olav V as the City of Oslo Award. Other notable presentations were made by Lipton Tea and to the Boy Scouts of America, Greenwich, CT. | Concept to Product capability is manifest in the ability to develop a project from the design stages to a completed work. Creation of a working drawing to a sculptural pattern and on to metal fabrication;- cast, welded or Repousse in Copper, non-ferrous or ferrous metals. Lost wax bronze casting, vacuum assist for sterling silver and Britannia Metal. Presently both Bill Osmundsen and Joe Filipowski are working on individual long term projects which demonstrate the extent of their expertise. Concept to completed project takes a host of disciplines which are interchanged and overlapped to flow into the final artwork. In the case of the ‘Voyage of the Fox Sculpture’ Osmundsen has researched an event which took place in 1896, of the first trans-Atlantic crossing, by oar only, in an 18 foot surfboat. From the actual boat plans, a ‘Fox’ replica and photographs of the men, the Sculptor created this unique sculpture motif. This working model will later be enlarged and cast in bronze as a monument. Mr. Filipowski is actually constructing a working 32 foot wooden ‘Frigate’s Boat’ (O/A when rigged) for the Lobsterback Society, Revolutionary War reenactors. This fully accurate rowing and sailing tender, for one of the ships of the line, is designed to carry up to 23 Navy and Marines. A small bronze cannon and swivel guns which will be cast at our Forge are also planned for this vessel. Mr. Osmundsen will conduct Art Classes and study in Sculpture, mold making and metalworking. Mr. Filipowski’s will continue ongoing boat building seminars and woodshop instruction. Contact us for apprentice opportunities:-
